Apple Secures the Position of Being the Top Smartphone Vendor, Samsung comes Second
Nokia had long been the number 1 vendor when it came to smartphones. Despite many Nokia phone owners still using Symbian – an operating system that is extremely weak when compared to its modern competition – and the company having numerous issues, it still was sitting firmly on its throne. That ‘throne’ evidently has been taken from the cellphone giant. By whom? Apple, of course.
In this year’s second quarter, Apple’s sales already dominated that of Nokia’s. Nokia sunk quickly to third place after Samsung’s quarterly earnings were declared. The following is how each company ranked according to the number of units sold:
- Apple: 20.3 million
- Samsung: 19.2 million
- Nokia: 16.7 million
As for the market share values, the ranks are:
- Apple: 18.5%
- Samsung: 17.5%
- Nokia: 15.2%
These figures are yet another blow to the seemingly decaying Nokia. Currently, Apple appears to dominate it all however financial analysts are pointing to Samsung’s growth rate – which is higher than that of Apple’s – and speculating that Samsung’s number 1 spot is not too far in the future.
