How Apple Is Keeping Its Rivals Out Of the Tablet Market
0
Have you ever wondered why the iPhone and the iPad are still at the top of the phone and tablet market? Why have competing companies have had such terrible luck in producing products to match Apple’s iOS devices? And why have devices with similar physical parts not been created? If you have, then you are about to get all those questions answered. Apple basically locks out it competition from progressing. This clever maneuver widens the gap between the best and the second best. The primary ways in which Apple does this are:
1. Exclusivity Deals for the Win
A company as big as Apple has great influence. When the worth of a company matches that of all the Euro zone banks, it can surely bend things to satisfy its own needs. One of those needs is to ensure high sales of the products. And one way to do that, in addition to making a great product, is by ensuring that competitors are simply unable to match the product’s quality. How? Through exclusivity deals.
By signing exclusive deals with the best hardware manufacturers, Apple ensures that any competing company has access to only the second best material. It is not that Motorola, HP, or Nokia have not tried to use the same displays and materials as Apple’s iPhone and iPad – it is just that they simply do not have access to that hardware!
2. Indirectly Obstructing Progress
Apple learns from the products it already has. But by restricting access to its hardware, it ensures that competing companies do not learn like Apple learns from its devices. Simply put, by leaving behind only second best hardware manufacturers Apple restricts the possibilities of innovation for other companies.
3. Coolness is All That Counts
Apple products are cool. Or that is at least what their marketing has convinced most people of. Resultantly people look for Apple-ish products while purchasing phones, tablets, and other tech-devices. And guess what the competition cannot do: create Apple-ish products.
The key reason is of course those exclusivity deals; but combined with its brilliant marketing and clever innovation-blocking, Apple effectively ensures it stays on top. And how things are looking, the company will not be moving from that top spot any time soon.
